You see we are now dealing with full blown Cancer. Yes I said that “C” word that no one ever wants to hear. I was wondering    , how and why my brother has cancer in his early twenties. That is tragic, sad, and scary anyway. My mind touched on several people in this same small rural town in the crossroads of America. When I say small, that’s really an understatement. I now live in a community that literally has apartment complexes with more people in them than this entire town.

How is it, that I personally know so many people with horrible, very rare cancers! Well I will tell you what I think. I think it’s not bad genes. I think its environmental contamination. People need to be aware that the air we breathe in, the water we bath in, even cook with has effects on our health. We tend to take for granted these things. You cannot see or taste many of these catamites and some of them are not removed for even our tap water.  A town where my graduating class would have been under 50 students, I have personally known 2 children with brain cancer, multiple thyroid cancers, breast cancer, colon cancer, throat cancers. The only things these people seem to share are the infortune diagnose, and to happen to live, go to school and work in the same area. This is disturbing to me, as it should be to you. What is happening in your back yard literally! Go check it out.

This is disturbing to me that my water is rated a 2… My air is a 1 and unemployment is over 9 percent. Well that just says it all in a nutshell doesn’t it ?

In a nutshell do you ever feel like this ?

About your author.

I am a divorced, single mother that is working on her college degree, raising her children in the new technology age of social media’s and smart phones . If your family is like mine you have wires coming out your ears. The days of snail mail are almost gone, times have changed and so the way in which we live and parent .

Follow my blog as I struggle to find a happy medium between Martha Stewart and a Victoria secret run way model. I’m not your average soccer mom. I am cleaver, fun, sexy and still a good homemaker, roll model and mother.

In today’s age of lightning fast results, we must teach to reach farther, save more and have a good fix on being frugal but still fun.

My family is fabulous, wacky, and loving. I share my personal views and my take on everything from products, to love after we say “I don’t”.

Buckle your seat belts life is a fast, bumpy road in this one single mom’s house in suburbia.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I think it stemmed from my childhood when Halloween trick or treat was in its prime.

Yes,  boys and girls it was just like the movie E.T.  We would dress up right after school grab our pillow cases and set off with our brothers, sisters and friends.  From about 4 pm till 9 or 10 pm. We treated till we dropped and yes some even tricked.

Halloween isn’t really that way anymore. There are so many do’s and don’ts, and I wouldn’t dare let my children out of my site with all the wackos and crazies these days.

Not to mention our trick or treat times are only 2 to 3 hours long . The carefree days of being a 6 yr. old growing up in the 80’s is definitely past us. Now instead of squirt guns, and huge plastic cordless phones and ET on VHS. Kids carry cell phones that stream movies and YouTube, have iPods, and play shoot em up games on the PlayStation or Xbox.Sometimes I miss those simple moments of my childhood and an era past.

This party was just what my family needed to get in the spirit and come together doing fun things. We made a green box YouTube video for a Houseparty contest to win a special “green box”.

The whole family was involved; we colored, laughed and had a really fun time making this video. Which, I feel I better understand George Lucas and his begining shooting video for star wars in his garage.

George, there probably isn’t enough money in the world for the set of frustrations we faced that were unexpected for a 30 second video. I know now, if I didn’t before you are an artist that truly has a passion and love for his work.

We did win though! I thought my daughter was going to pass out when the FedEx driver pulled up on that Saturday. We had a huge Monster House party. Friends, family came ate, partied till about 10:30 pm. We, danced to everybody dance, had awesome party favors and I painted a back drop for the party. I had all but forgotten my passion for art and painting. It felt like a breath of fresh air, like I had not been actually living for the past few years.

I included pictures of my party for you to view, a houseparty team actually put this together for our party and for that we thank you. Venice says Houseparty is like Santa Clause!

My first house party as a Host was a PlayStation 3 event.  This started it all . is exactly what the names says , It is a company that sends its hosts , party packs full of free  products for you to try out with your friends and family members.

My middle daughter, Venice especially loves my parties and some of the contests I have entered on House party. She is obsessed with House party; it is her “claim to fame” in the first grade and our neighborhood.

We received our package via UPS and I waited for her to open it up. She was so excited. We received coasters, plastic cups that changed colors when your drink is poured in it. Body Glitter, which all the girls loved and bracelets.   The Everybody Dance PlayStation 3 game with discount coupons for the game and PlayStation move.

Friends and Family came, danced, glittered, and laughed.

Everybody dance was a huge hit with everyone , the kids loved it . I have even had parents , friends and family asking where to buy it , and if I still have coupons , because their children keep asking for it and telling them they want to go to my home and play.

Homemade from your oven Pumpkin Pie from an ordinary Jack-o-lantern.

So who has an extra pumpkin or 4 if you’re like me? We are tightening our budget this year, with the long drawn out state of our economy. We decided before Halloween that yes indeed we would celebrate but, we were going to use what we had if at all possible. So we did a Nightmare before Christmas theme. We got out our Christmas decor and our Halloween stuff that we use over and over and gave it all a makeover. We bought our pumpkins and painted them. So they would keep with washable paint. So now we have tons and tons of Pumpkin everything.

Let me share a really cheap, very good recipe with you.  Ya I know I’m supposed to keep jems like this a secret. Do you know all the compliments I have received over the HipIndychic’s secret Pumpkin Pie recipe? I blew Sara Lee out of the water and much cheaper.

Yes I still have a few pumpkins by the way. They are gourds and keep a very long time as long as they are not cut.

What you need

A large Knife,

Kitchen table to stretch out on.

Newspaper yes they still make those.

An oven

Ice-cream scoop or what my son loves to use is a small heavy duty tablespoon that is fairly thin. So use your imagination.

Oven safe dish I use Pyrex the rectangle on.

Foil paper

Measuring spoons

Measuring Cup

Readymade or pre made pie crust (I make mine from scratch ahead of time) and freeze them in the pie pan.

Mixer the handheld one.

Small Pumpkin about the size of a Gallon Jug of Milk.

One and one half cans of evaporated milk.

1 and half cups of sugar.

4 large eggs well any size will work.

Seasonings to taste but here is a guide.

You can use 3 teaspoons of Pumpkin pie spice (the dollar store has this)

Or what I do

One half teaspoon dry ginger

One and one half teaspoon of ground cinnamon

One teaspoon all spice

One teaspoon of nutmeg

One teaspoon of ground cloves

First things first wash your Pumpkin

Then with a sharp knife cut in half

Next with newspaper, have the kids dig in and get all the seeds out, you can dry them and plant them or roast them.

Next take your scoop and scoop away the stringy part of the pumpkin.

Cut it into 2 inch strips and place it in the Pyrex baking dishes cover it with foil and bake on 300 for 2 hours. The Pumpkin should be dark orange when you remove it from the oven. This step is the most important of them all. If this is messed up your pie will not have a nice consistency.

Let your pumpkin rest for an hour until it’s completely cool. Then with a large spoon or scoop remove the orange skin and in a large bowl place your pumpkin pulp.

Drain away extra juice.

Mix in your spices, eggs, evaporated milk mix on low for a few minutes until the lumps are out and the spices are all mixed in 3 cups of drained pumpkin pulp. This makes two pies. If you have more pumpkin just repeat the process.

If you have done the first part of this correctly you will not even need a hand mixer but I use one anyway.

Next take your pie crusts I make two pies at a time I take a little cinnamon, nutmeg and sugar in the pie crust just a little bit and smash it down in the dough.

Pour your pie filling in the crusts (I use deep dish) back on 375 for about an hour and Presto you have homemade love. Your home will smell wonderful and your husband will think your Martha Stewart, your children will be behaved as their mouths are full.

The husband’s friends, neighbors and everyone will think you slaved all day in the kitchen. How did she do that? Its sooo good and she even cleaned the kitchen afterward. Can you believe that?

You don’t have to tell them, you got the recipe from me and that it’s so simple. Just let them believe you’re so awesome. Sit back enjoy your pie, and a nice glass of Organic Milk.
